The Corona crisis has strengthened the trend towards mobile working. According to new calculations, up to five million employees are likely to move their workplace to their home in the next few years.

What are the consequences of working from home for employees, companies or the public sector?

Scientists from the Research Center for Corporate Real Estate Management at the Technical University of Darmstadt have addressed this question in the current study “Home office in a conflict of interest”.

Coworking literally means “working side by side”. With coworking, people work - on their own mission or in their function for a company or enterprise - at the same time in the immediate vicinity in one and the same space. The counterpart to this: the exclusive use of an area, i.e. without third parties.

Digitalization and the global COVID-19 pandemic are the two drivers that are changing the way we work and use offices to a considerable extent that cannot yet be fully measured. Both drivers are acting simultaneously and individually, with Corona accelerating the digitalization of the world of work. This affects everyone who has to do with the planning, implementation, provision and use of office environments and workspaces. New Work is always a topic everywhere.

Germany has a new goal: climate neutrality should be achieved not in 2050, but as early as 2045! Sharing in the real estate world can make a decisive contribution to this.

How do we make cities more sustainable, how is mobility linked to our daily working lives, what solutions are already available today? This was the topic of a workshop by M:UniverCity, using the example of the Munich pilot project "Car-free urban quarter Westend-Kiez".

The fact is: an environmentally conscious lifestyle is no longer lived exclusively within one's own four walls. Despite home office options, many structures have been retained and the office remains the daily routine for many employers and employees. This is where we spend the majority of the day, with a weekly working time of around 35 hours.

Do you remember the time when you never even thought about indoor health? This time, which in retrospect seems almost innocent and naive, basically encompassed your entire life. The recommendations and restrictions issued by politicians, authorities and virologists to contain the pandemic have shifted our world, which until recently was still pulsating in public spaces, into the private and digital space. The goal: Flatten the Curve. The order of the day in this regard: Social Distancing.
